After years of rumors and sneak peeks of prototypes, Canon has finally released the long awaited Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM 1.4x Extender lens. This professional level lens offers a mix of superb quality with incredible versatility. The super telephoto lens lineups from major manufacturers such as Nikon and Canon typically consist of mostly prime lenses.
At the current price of $10,999.00, it’s unlikely the average photographer is going to purchase this amazing, unique lens. That said, if you’re going on a special trip or working for a client, renting this lens is an excellent, affordable option!
Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM 1.4x Extender Lens Review
As can be seen in the pictures below, this is a very unique lens; It has a 1.4x extender built in to the lens construction. A switch near the back of the lens allows the extender to be engaged and disengaged, changing the lens’ focal length from 200-400mm to 280-560mm, allowing incredible versatility in a super telephoto lens. This lens’ versatility make it the perfect lens for wildlife and sports photographers.
I’m still working on a review of this lens, however check out the specs and the first look video below:
